Or at least you should be, THE AFRO-PUNK FESTIVAL kicks off this SATURDAY JULY 5TH, 2008! And who else would BROOKLYN have join the festival and help open it up than our favorite AT ALIEN Janele Monae. We'll aslo be hanging with the youth learning how to kick flip, coast, and all the other amazing tricks at THE AFRO - PUNK Skate Park. Boy we can't wait! We hope to see you there. If you have not heard BROOKLYN is our stomping grounds and has been home to YUME for as long as we can remember. So we are always happy when our friends and family get it and do something that BRIDGES THE GAP between new and old BROOKLYN.
Our friends over at THE BROOKLYN MUSEM sent us over an invitation to the TAKASHI MURAKAMI EXHIBIT and LOUIS VUITTON POP UP SHOP. We at YUME remember taking strolls through the museum on High School dates and enjoying the classic house exhibits, while necking in the crevices while no one was looking, so of course we have a strong since of ownership and thus take on the responsibility of making sure you are at this exhibit.

As you know YUME loves Brooklyn, so it was only right that we got down with what will be a momentous occasion in BK. YUME supports many causes and one of the major ones that we back is HIV & AIDS AWARENESS. In the coming months we will be preparing to be apart of a charity basketball game over at BROOKLYN COLLEGE. YUME will be facing off against Brooklyn College's finest as we help out with a great cause. We will reach out to alot of you guys out there to become apart of this momentous occasion. Alot is continuously changing in Brooklyn these days. There is a continuous series of buildings being built particularly in the lower Brooklyn neighborhoods (CROWN HEIGHTS, BED STUY, RED HOOK, etc.) YUME will be embarking on a project we like to call "BRIDGING THE GAP." With the displacement and disconcertion of residents in these neighborhoods who can not afford the new high rents or barely making their rent, we feel there is nothing that inspires them daily.
YUME in collaboration with SEE ONE and a few other artists in the YUME FAM, will be doing murals throughout these areas to incite hope and inspiration into the residents that feel hopeless as well as giving the new residents something they can appreciate. We hope to BRIDGE THE GAP between the new and old residents by sparking conversation through different messages of unity within the reality of what is happening in Brooklyn and how it has an adverse effect on both new and old residents within these geographic areas, that are prime real estate for the new developments being built.
