“The Buddha Dharma is nowhere remote. It is close to us, in our hearts. Suchness is nowhere external. If not within our bodies, where can it be found?”
- Secret Key to the Heart Sutra by Kukai, Founder of Japanese Shingon Buddhism

Meet shapeshifter LOTUSHEART and become part of her journey to discover the Hidden Flower guarded carefully by the Challenger. On her magical journey, she encounters new, as well as old friends such as HARAKITI, who help her to visualize the glowing blossom of the Flower.

“This show is the fruit of numerous all-night-till-the-sun-rise painting sessions of the last two months, many of them spent with fellow artists who labored with me, kept me inspired and helped me to sharpen my vision. Taking the Japanese samurai and ninja tradition as a visual reference, I have tried to illustrate a number of spiritual concepts I have been meditating on for years and place them in a dreamlike setting of love and chivalry. I also wanted to make this solo show into an opportunity to honor my friends -my Brooklyn fam- by inviting them to be part of this fantasy heartland of lovers and secret monk-warriors that we created as we were preparing for the show.” Lichiban

THE BROOKLYN TEE PARTY X EYD

Photobucket
The Brooklyn Tee Party Presents: EYD ONE: The Black Panther Party
September 14th - October 12th, 2008
Opening Reception Sunday, Sept. 14th, 7 pm to 11 pm
@ YUME Gallery,
925 Bergen St, #406,
Brooklyn, NY 11238

EYD ONE (born 1985 in Komaki City, Japan) is an ever elusive graff writer, illustrator, tattoo artist and mural master known as dark and brooding with a mysterious glimmer to his smile. His work has appeared all over the streets of Japan (legally and illegally) and in several group shows in Tokyo and Osaka. In 2005, he moved to New York to make his mark in the New York street and fine art and fashion scene. You can see his murals in NY's East Village boutique Bobby as well as on the walls of YUME itself.
Described as a mixture of dream and nightmare, EYD ONE's work evokes a dichotomy of beauty and abject. It comments on the dual natures of humanity as a whole: our value structures, belief systems and personal feelings of fear and lonliness. Beneath these themes, there is a hint of hope and strength in that within the grotesque exists a true beauty that often goes unappreciated or ignored.
The Brooklyn Tee Party is proud to host EYD ONE's first ever gallery show in America. We worked hard to convince him to come out of his realm of privacy and secrecy, which he guards even closer than his artwork, and we succeeded. His work will be available for purchase along with limited edition hand-printed, tea-dyed original tee-shirts with his signature artwork on it that you will only be able to purchase at YUME through The Brooklyn Tee Party. The artist will also be at the opening reception with his translator on hand for Q&A.
Please join us to help celebrate great artwork and the coming of the EYD ONE phenomenon. This may be the only chance you get to see this amazing artist's work in person this side of the Atlantic. Email bktp [at] thebrooklynteeparty [dot] com for more information.

No, not "ouch". Pronounced OOH-WOO-CH-I, Ouchi is Japanese for "home" or "house". Our gallery has this name because it displays works by contemporary Japanese artists in a home-like setting. Art should be more than a business commodity. It should transform all of our daily lives, awakening new thoughts and passions each day. The best art teaches that there are no limits to individual pursuits; that our own possibilities are infinite. So when you visit Ouchi Gallery, we hope that you feel both at home and inspired. Perhaps you will feel something exhilarating—a positive "ouch!"

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF YUME

We are diligently working towards our September 15th re-launch. But there is much to do before we sleep. One of our favorite artists has decided to grace one of our walls in our mural swap. Lichiban (www.myspace.com/lichiban) , a worldly and scholarly woman whose art transcends time will be creating a masterpiece in lew of one of our walls (if you want to know which one, you have to come by and check it out). We can't wait until its done. Here are some preliminary pictures and samples of her work.

SAVE HIP HOP! ICE - T VS SOULAH BOY

Normally we don't pay attention to the stupidity that happens when 2 artists quarrel. But YUME found this particular conflict very disturbing. Not so much for the rants and raves that each individual party made, but moreso for Souljah Boy's in-articulate speach, almost calling to ICE T for guidance and help.

In our research we also found some "encouraging comments" made by Kanye West, who we hope in all of his intellectual prowess really was not being an antagonist in the situation. But truely quelling a beef that was pretty much uncalled for in his eyes. Truthfully ICE-T is the muther friggin man. But Souljah boy was honest when he asked for guidance. We don't think he truely wants to destroy Hip Hop, and now that he's made some money he may actually want to learn a thing or 2. Will he? HELL NO! The green eyed bandit aka "The Almighty Dollar" has him in him clutches and he will not let go.

But truthfully, we barely write long drawn out posts, but this has to be adressed. Souljah Boy's call for help has a lot more to do with a lack of guidance in his life in general, the stories of MILK shooting a video at Dekalb pool, have not made it down to his generation. The hustlers on street corners don't look after the young and tell them not to be knuckle heads, they use them as pawns. So truthfully we ask you "How do we save HIP HOP?" Well, the seasoned must lead the un-seasoned. We need to start putting out better quality music and in turn teaching the young folk, like SOULJAH BOY, that Hip Hop is much like spiritual song, it gives us a link into a past that seems to be forgotten. If we forget the spirituals, we can never make it home.

I don't feel like we should say "GET YALL MONEY!" and thats it, we also have to say "SHIT, GET YOUR MONEY, THEN MAKE A CHANGE!". Just some food for thought. By the way for those of you that don't know PRINT & GOOD DAY GOOD NIGHT ARE CHANGING HIP HOP, EVERY DAY www.myspace.com/print2008
