So we were lucky enough to sit in the studio with C.J. BROWNE last night as he worked on the up and coming YUME:TIMELESS project which we are super exited about. We actually came across a song that we actually love, love, love and we wanted you to take a listen. It's a remix of Kanye West's flashing lights done by none other than the unsung hero Collin Munroe www.myspace.com/colinmunroe and YUME Music's C.J. Browne. Make sure you keep you stop by the CMJ festival this year as C.J and company will be performing in studio radio shows, as well as some live spots. We're too excited about this!

Normally we don't pay attention to the stupidity that happens when 2 artists quarrel. But YUME found this particular conflict very disturbing. Not so much for the rants and raves that each individual party made, but moreso for Souljah Boy's in-articulate speach, almost calling to ICE T for guidance and help.
In our research we also found some "encouraging comments" made by Kanye West, who we hope in all of his intellectual prowess really was not being an antagonist in the situation. But truely quelling a beef that was pretty much uncalled for in his eyes. Truthfully ICE-T is the muther friggin man. But Souljah boy was honest when he asked for guidance. We don't think he truely wants to destroy Hip Hop, and now that he's made some money he may actually want to learn a thing or 2. Will he? HELL NO! The green eyed bandit aka "The Almighty Dollar" has him in him clutches and he will not let go.
But truthfully, we barely write long drawn out posts, but this has to be adressed. Souljah Boy's call for help has a lot more to do with a lack of guidance in his life in general, the stories of MILK shooting a video at Dekalb pool, have not made it down to his generation. The hustlers on street corners don't look after the young and tell them not to be knuckle heads, they use them as pawns. So truthfully we ask you "How do we save HIP HOP?" Well, the seasoned must lead the un-seasoned. We need to start putting out better quality music and in turn teaching the young folk, like SOULJAH BOY, that Hip Hop is much like spiritual song, it gives us a link into a past that seems to be forgotten. If we forget the spirituals, we can never make it home.
I don't feel like we should say "GET YALL MONEY!" and thats it, we also have to say "SHIT, GET YOUR MONEY, THEN MAKE A CHANGE!". Just some food for thought. By the way for those of you that don't know PRINT & GOOD DAY GOOD NIGHT ARE CHANGING HIP HOP, EVERY DAY www.myspace.com/print2008

If you have not heard BROOKLYN is our stomping grounds and has been home to YUME for as long as we can remember. So we are always happy when our friends and family get it and do something that BRIDGES THE GAP between new and old BROOKLYN.
Our friends over at THE BROOKLYN MUSEM sent us over an invitation to the TAKASHI MURAKAMI EXHIBIT and LOUIS VUITTON POP UP SHOP. We at YUME remember taking strolls through the museum on High School dates and enjoying the classic house exhibits, while necking in the crevices while no one was looking, so of course we have a strong since of ownership and thus take on the responsibility of making sure you are at this exhibit.

So I know you guys saw the Grammy's last night and you saw Kanye's performance and were like whoa! THE NEW REGIME has decided to hip you on what YUME thinks inspires his NEO-TOKYO style. Zeebra has been impacting hip hop in Japan for a long time, and his flow is undoubtedly one of the best to ever come out of Japan. Peep the BIO and peep the video.

Zeebra is a famous Japanese hip hop artist, who made his first appearance in 1995. Known as the first rapper in Japan, Zeebra is a former member of the legendary hip-hop group King Giddra, which also included DJ Oasis and K Dub Shine. He went on to pursue a solo career shortly after in 1997, and signed with the Future Shock record label. Having appeared in several TV commercials, instigated hip-hop television programs, and produced songs for upcoming rappers, Zeebra could be called the father of the Japanese rap scene. Zeebra remains probably the most popular rapper in Japan, and is admired by both men and women. He appears not only in hip-hop magazines, but also in fashion and street culture magazines. He often features in and produces other rappers' songs, and appears in their videos. He has also appeared as an opening act for American rappers. In 1998 Zeebra undertook his first solo tour. This is when he started being recognized as an individual rapper for the first time, making hip-hop more familiar to Japanese listeners. In the same year he started the first hip-hop TV program in Japan, titled Beats to the Rhyme. One of Zeebra's songs was used in a Nike promotion video for NBA Japan games. The following year Zeebra released the single "Mr. Dynamite", the first hip-hop single to break into the top 50 on the Japanese pop charts. In June 2000, he released his new album Based On a True Story, which sold 250,000 copies. At the end of that year Zeebra started his first Japan tour, the first hip-hop event to sell out. In 2001 Zeebra released the single "Never Enuff", the theme song for a Japanese movie called Brother, directed by Takeshi Kitano and starring Claude Maki. In 2002 he temporarily rejoined King Giddra, but has been doing solo work since 2003 and has released many songs. At present, he is producing songs not only for rap artists, but also for pop stars like Namie Amuro. Hip-hop is now firmly ensconced in the Japanese music scene, to the extent that it is even heard as background music. This would probably not have happened without Zeebra, who is often considered the originator of the Japanese hip-hop scene.
