So I know I haven't spoken much about my UNITED TRADE SHOW escapades, but I met some really dope people during my time there (THE CAMERA WAS JACKED, THE PICS WON'T DOWNLOAD) and I deffinitely felt really good about the brands I walked out of there with. One in particular was THE ORIGINAL DAVID. A very unique brand that will deffinitley make an impact on our small piece of heaven.

Its thunderstorming people, though I do love the rain, it deffinitely will keep me inside working hard instead of taking a day off (OHHH THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE!). The store is coming along great and as mentioned in the previous posting we will be releasing pics every Wed. just to keep you up to date with the finishing touches for the build out.
Today we meet with Big E, our family carpenter, he's going to bring us back to reality with some ideas for the shop. Joi will also be stopping by to give us some tips on a few things, and our wonderfull publicist will be meeting with us to also let us know what we need to do in the next coming weeks as we approach the store opening.

Hey people, I'm sure there will be alot of back posting today as we have been busy these past few days. But peep game, today is a momentous day, our homegirl from Japan, Shiro, will be stopping in today to begin "THE PAINT YOUR DREAMS PROJECT". Which will culminate some of the dopest artists in existence lending their heart, mind, and soul to different pieces of work that will culminate visions of each artist's dreams.

No I did not loose track of the days again, but I did miss a day of posting (BAD ME!). So the past couple days have been extremely eventful, where do I start? Went to United and met some cool ass MOFOS whom I look forward to carrying in the shop. Went to a party, saw CAMP LO perform, got a bunch of free drinks, bumped into THE GARBEGE CREW!! (What up JEN!), chilled with my peoples over at THE THINK TANK, got a little tipsy, saw CAMP LO perform... Oh I said that LOL, what can I say, stay tuned for the pics and the updates, we have some exciting news and can't wait to share it with you, but you'll have to wait until the next post.

So its been a couple days since we've posted but that can only mean one thing... WE'RE GOING OUT OF OUR MINDS!!! LOL Yes the beautiful struggle continues as we try to lock down the final touches for construction, finish "THE PAINT YOUR DREAMS" PROJECT, and make sure you guys have an optimum shopping experience when you head down to YUME.

So I know you may have read in one of our earlier blogs about the "PAINT YOUR DREAMS PROJECT". For those of you that don't know we have selcted a group of artists that will be blessing the walls in the store with their work. The theme is different interpretations of the word DREAM and what it means to each artist. When we open our doors next month we will be holding monthly black book parties, and publishing the work in 2008. We hope to keep the artistic juices flowing in young artists who may not have the mediums to show their skill.

So for some reason today I was lost thinking it was Wed. all day, LOL Thinking I had lost a day, I worked diligently to finish stocking the store, make sure I got to UNITED next Monday and Tuesday, prepared for my trip to Japan, and then it hit me "IT'S ONLY TUESDAY!" You can surely loose track of time when you are grinding, but now the days are blurring LOL
Anyway here are the updates:
- Our creative director Jemal will begin our "PAINT YOUR DREAM!" project in the store. First up will be Shiro as she has to head back to Japan at the end of the month.
- The construction will be done sooner than later, and we are working out some kinks we've been running into. (CAN'T WAIT TO REVEAL THE STORE, THEN WE CAN POST PICTURES OF THE STORE ON A REGULAR BASIS SHEESH!)
- Working on a few collabs with some dope people and dope brands so we can get it popping. Look out for our FREINDS & FAMILY EDITION sweatshirts (just caught a chill)
- Organizing our year of events so we can always keep you submerged in THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE
Other than that, we are still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that we are actually opening a store and not selling our souls to do it. SHEESH! Independent thinking and orginization go a long way.

This weekend was one of productivity and relaxation.
SATURDAY - The YUME BKNY FAM took some much needed time off and basically took some time to breathe.

This cat is probably one of the illest MCs and singers I have ever seen. Whether he's rocking with cats like PRINT or doing his own thing he deffinitely stands out everytime he performs. I have had the chance on quite a few occasions to check him out performing. Ever since I saw him rock GROOVE in the village, I have been a fan. Then I bump into him in England, twice!! If you don't know,then you have been officially educated. OUTASIGHT is the illest... LOL

Hey people, just checking in to give you more updates on THE BEAUTIFUL STUGGLE. My sources have found out that a wonderful young lady and fashonista I met in London is headed to America (hopefully we can do a shoot with her while she is here). Her name is Kesh she is one half of the DJ sensation THE COCONUT TWINZ, she also happens to be apart of THE UGLY KIDS as well, a dope designer, stylist, and all around good peoples. So Kesh if you check the blog (like eveyone should LOL) make sure you hit us up and say what up! We wanna make sure we get you by the shop to shoot the breeze and do a photo shoot with us. It's 90 something degrees outside and it feels like its 200 degrees, I'm dying!!! If you feel me please give me an AMEN! Loud and obnoxious like Mother Sister in "Do The Right Thing." But the grind does not stop. Today I met with a carpenter to go over the last minute custom jobs and accents we wanted to add to the shop.
He deffinitely hit us with some really dope ideas and I think you guys will be pleased with what you see. Stay tuned for some pics from build out and some other cool stuff.

Just to tell you how the universe works. We were in the car coming back to BK and while crossing the bridge and hitting Tillary St. a muslim selling bean pies peeped through our open car window and said something so prolific it just let us know we are heading down the right path in opening up YUME.

So yesterday we were grinding like nobody's business, Our Creative Director - Jemal, Resident Designer & Architect - Melvin, Mr. Money Man and Partner - Khalid, and The dopest PR woman in the world Tashauna (hope I spelled that right) got together to grind out some real hardcore specifics when it comes to the shop. We had plenty of Starbucks, alot of dynamic ideas, and an all in all productive 4 hour meeting.
After that we decided to take the edge off and hit up some spots we love to visit, SHOUTS TO A-LIFE, NOM DE GUERRE, and THE ATRIUM. THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE CONTINUES... peep the pics
What can I say? DOPE GRAPHICS! DOPE LINE! DOPE PHILOSOPHY! We support lines we believe in, we carry lines that inspire, and we appreciate those indivuduals that grind out and still keep good quality gear coming and not selling their souls to the HYPE.

I won't make this long winded, because you guys know I can go on and on, I just wanted to pay respect to someone who I feel inspired me to open YUME BKNY and really jump into the world of being a store owner. No we're not talking about someones unattractive baby, or someone's child. We are repping THE UGLY KIDS CREW Straight from the UK. We got a chance to rub elbows with these cats while we were in London and let me tell you they tore down THE YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL in Trefalgar Square, rain and all. They tore the stage down something terrible!!
The then hooked up with Abstract Vol. 1, a dope yearly event focused on crossisng mixed media, our peoples at Abstract Mgt. & Consulting make that happen. So we decided to stop by one of our favorite spots in Brooklyn, SPUTNIK (www.barsputnik.com) to check out one of their bi-weekly hip hop shows. Of course some of the YUME BKNY fam was there. Come to find out when we get to the door the rain caused a minor sound problem to their bottom floors space, so the show had to be canceled.
But let me tell you, the artists there are so cool, they weren't even mad, Resident A.L.I.E.N and YUME BKNY fam Mello - X took the turntables and tore it down!
YUME BKNY fam Word Spit grabbed his camera and just started recording, and to everyone's amazement one of the illest cyphers in existence started up inside the venue, then spilled over to the streets, right outside of Sputnik. It was by far the dopest s$%t I have ever seen in my life! Peep the pics above and stay tuned for the video!!
So I missed another day of posting, I could not help it I just did not get a chance to hit the computer up, I was out at meetings all day, discussing new projects that YUME will be getting into, Trying to solidify some lines that we just must have,and last night I witnessed one of the dopest things in my life. But I have to post that in another post because its that crazy!!!
Good news though we are finalizing our architectual snafoos and fixing up the place and though we are a little behind schedule me and the partners are going hard to make sure you will be able to partake in and join the YUME movement. Sorry for the lack of pics of the space, but we gotta keep it under wraps. The closer we get to the opening date, the more pics we'll pump out. Stay Focused! and I'll post again soon.
So its July 4th, the time for BBQing and getting tipsy, But not for YUME BKNY. We are working hard to reach the deadlines we set forth for opening, contacting new dope brands, planning our launch party, building the store, and formulating our company to be the best it can be. On top of that we all have other less creative ventures which are a little more restricted and stuffy. We grinds hard, play hard, and we go in. So for all of the young cats that are just as young as us, think popping style is all you do, and rock hot sh*t you bugging!!
I haven't bought a new pair of kicks in months, I rock my Kings Fitted I picked up in London everywhere, love my favorite LRG shorts, and love my vintage Banana Republic T-Shirts (We talking like 94 people, when the flagship store had a ship in it). Kweli was not joking about THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE. It is beautiful and I'm enjoying every minute of it!!!
So it is our duty to carry dope Brooklyn designers, and Coup d' etat is as dope as they come. We should be getting our order in rather soon. Shouts to Rasu & Daoud! Keep the crack coming and we can't wait to get our Fall goodies too!!

So I promised to let you guys in and get a birds eye view of what it is to work on opening a shop. So we have weekly meetings (Sundays) and were kind of working out the kinks of the shop, lines, and contruction deadlines. We got side tracked and took some pics (As mentioned in the prior post).
