YUME: COMMUNITY: THE BROOKLYN PROJECT
YUME is located on the border of CROWN HEIGHTS and PROSEPCT HEIGHTS, 2 very emerging neighborhoods positioned in the upper parts of Brooklyn. We have devised a very calculated plan to become very closely involved in BROOKLYN's revival through a few different projects. We are in the midst of creating community partnerships with quite a few different orginizations across NYC to help make sure that as we grow throughout the city we can redirect our efforts to the improvement of living for all Brooklynites, with a strong focus on the underpriviledged and youth.
YUME will keep you up to date on what projects we are working on and how you can get involved via these posts, e-mails, and street level recruitement. We would hope you get involved to make a difference and join THE YUME EXPERIENCE.

YUME; ART; SEE ONE
ART,ART, ART & MORE ART. YUME will bring you all of the wonderful projects we will be collaborating on with local and international artists through these posts. We will bring you up to date on the stuff we are selling, things we are working on, and the up and coming artists who are making a wave through the art scene. These will not be band wagon posts, we will look to focus on the artists who are not getting world recognition, but who we think deserve it. Merchandising we will be doing with each artist, and a bunch of other art related stuff.
Today we are focusing on SEE ONE a virtuoso who has indeed caught our eye by doing one of the illest murals in existence on our wall. Though he likes to stay under wraps, we decided to highlight him and let you know that pretty soon you will have no choice but to "OPEN YOUR EYES". He is apart of 101 NINE STUDIOS which is slowly but surely becoming "THE" studio for eerything artistic in collaboration with THE YUME STUDIO at YUME. Look out for SEE ONE as he will be working on our MARCH 29TH PHENOMENON along with some custom hand made merchandise that will be coming in April. Peep the work below.

YUME: MUSIC: AMANDA DIVA
So as you know YUME has always been a strong supporter of good music, so much that we have incorporated it into our CORE VALUES, which govern alot of what we do in our daily operations. YUME:MUSIC posts will highlight and focus on music projects, music we sell, and our over all affinity for everything music related and how you can take part in these things through your YUME experience.
Today we are highlighting Hip Hop sensation AMANDA DIVA. If you have never seen her live this Friday will be a good opportunity as she will be stopping by to bless us with her lyrical stylings and also will be dropping off her CDs to sell at YUME as well. Peep the bio, pics, and info below.
THE FUTURE IS YOURS!...NYC...MARCH 29TH, 2008
PEOPLE KNOW AMANDA DIVA.
Before being recognized as a singer/ songwriter/ emcee, in the summer of 2001 she burst onto the poetry scene as a spoken word poet who’s style, an energetic blend of hip-hop and Black history, humor and intensity, strength and intelligence, stood out from the then exploding poetry scene. Her respect in the community grew quickly and only a year later she was featured on Russell Simmon’s hit series Def Poetry Jam (’02 & ‘05). Soon she was performing across the nation hitting the stages of college campuses and alongside greats like the legendary Last Poets, Kurtis Blow and Nikki Giovanni.
Aside from her deep roots in the poetry world many came to know the Grenadian-American as the “face of hip-hop” for MTV2, as a member of the Atlanta based dj crew "The Aphilliates,” for her top rated morning show “Breakfast at Diva’s” on Sirius Satellite Radio’s HipHopNation/40, on air Monday through Friday from 6am-12pm est, and as a contributor for XXL Magazine and AllHipHop.com. Crossing those three distinctive media outlets, she is a sought after interviewer who has sat down with the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, 50 Cent, The Roots, Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, and more.
Yet, though many know Amanda Diva as a personality dedicated to supporting and promoting good music what they don’t know is she makes good music as well. Until now. Fresh off the 21 city Floetry Remix tour as the newest member of the Grammy Award duo, Amanda has replaced Natalie Stewart’s “Rhymstress” as the new “Lyri-Sista” she has successfully made the transition from poet to recording artist. After releasing the widely praised, “It’s Bigger than Hip-hop, The Mixtape: Vol. 1” (2004) which combined her poems with today and yesterday’s hottest beats Deev made the decision to do what many in the poetry world have tried but failed to do, make the jump to commercial music. To do so she reinvented her sound putting together a band consisting of drums, bass, keys, and the conga, and converting her poetic style to an old school flow complimented by her sultry vocals.
That sound debuted on her “Still Sucka Free Vol. 1” mixtape hosted by acclaimed dj Mick Boogie which continued to build the momentum of her movement. Supported heavily in the press, Scratch Magazine said, “Amanda is a breath of fresh air. Not only is her pen as sharp as OJ’s knife she can story tell with the best of them.” (Feb ’07) With the ability to skillfully switch between rapping and singing, Miss Diva’s unique talent makes her stand out amongst an industry of carbon copies and one hit wonders. Addressing issues of politics as well as everyday occurrences and headaches that everyone deals with, Amanda Diva puts them in an explosive rhyme/song format that forces the highest sadiddy to come down to earth, and the most thorough thug to awaken his intellect. Embarking on a new venture Deev, self-released “LIFE EXPERIENCE,” the first in The EXPERIENCE Trilogy, a three part series of EP’s, in December ’07. It’s time for the world to get to know Amanda Diva not only as a host, poet, writer, but also as an explosive performer and talented artist with more than just something to say. Working on stage and in the studio with such artists and legends as Q-Tip, Questlove, James Poyser, Chamillionaire, Kwame’, Green Lantern, Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry she is wo-manning a movement toward bringing back music that the people cannot only listen to, but live to.

YUME X KENNETH COLE?
Labels: Accesories , Art , Community , Corporation , Fashion , Kenneth Cole , Lifestyle , Music , Shoes
Yeah I know it sounds pretty crazy right? Well we thought so too when, THE NEW REGIME, gave us a call and told us that some gentlemen at KENNETH COLE wanted to speak with us on the emerging trends in sub-cultural followings. We thought we were in A. DREAM for real. But fortunately for us THE NEW REGIME takes care of its people. The meeting was more informational than anything and really gave YUME a great insight into what larger corporate companies do when it comes to the design process and handling relationships so as to become a staple in the fashion and lifestyle community. KENNETH COLE becomes 25 years old this year and YUME hopes to survive just as long.
We really want to thank THE NEW REGIME, and our new YUME FAM at KENNETH COLE for taking the time out to meet with YUME, we know you guys are busy over there rolling out the new seasons. Look out for some of the things we learned in the YUME experience. We want our corporate communications guide to look just as dope as KENNETH COLE'S. Even though we are more artistically based by nature and focus on ART, MUSIC, FASHION, & COMMUNITY we can still learn from a veteran in the game.
It was also very nice to see that a company as large as KENNETH COLE is based on community improvement and has a very strong platform for social change. I mean with fellowships in the millions and programs designed to help with HIV and AIDS advocacy, it is only right that we look to KENNETH as somewhat of a mentor, we hope to make just as much change in the world as well. THANKS AGAIN TO THE NEW REGIME YOU GUYS ARE ON POINT!

INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE
Labels: Art , Fashion , Generation Hip Hop , Japan , Kanye West , Music , Zeebra
So I know you guys saw the Grammy's last night and you saw Kanye's performance and were like whoa! THE NEW REGIME has decided to hip you on what YUME thinks inspires his NEO-TOKYO style. Zeebra has been impacting hip hop in Japan for a long time, and his flow is undoubtedly one of the best to ever come out of Japan. Peep the BIO and peep the video.
THE FUTURE IS YOURS...NYC... MARCH 29TH, 2008
Zeebra is a famous Japanese hip hop artist, who made his first appearance in 1995. Known as the first rapper in Japan, Zeebra is a former member of the legendary hip-hop group King Giddra, which also included DJ Oasis and K Dub Shine. He went on to pursue a solo career shortly after in 1997, and signed with the Future Shock record label. Having appeared in several TV commercials, instigated hip-hop television programs, and produced songs for upcoming rappers, Zeebra could be called the father of the Japanese rap scene. Zeebra remains probably the most popular rapper in Japan, and is admired by both men and women. He appears not only in hip-hop magazines, but also in fashion and street culture magazines. He often features in and produces other rappers' songs, and appears in their videos. He has also appeared as an opening act for American rappers. In 1998 Zeebra undertook his first solo tour. This is when he started being recognized as an individual rapper for the first time, making hip-hop more familiar to Japanese listeners. In the same year he started the first hip-hop TV program in Japan, titled Beats to the Rhyme. One of Zeebra's songs was used in a Nike promotion video for NBA Japan games. The following year Zeebra released the single "Mr. Dynamite", the first hip-hop single to break into the top 50 on the Japanese pop charts. In June 2000, he released his new album Based On a True Story, which sold 250,000 copies. At the end of that year Zeebra started his first Japan tour, the first hip-hop event to sell out. In 2001 Zeebra released the single "Never Enuff", the theme song for a Japanese movie called Brother, directed by Takeshi Kitano and starring Claude Maki. In 2002 he temporarily rejoined King Giddra, but has been doing solo work since 2003 and has released many songs. At present, he is producing songs not only for rap artists, but also for pop stars like Namie Amuro. Hip-hop is now firmly ensconced in the Japanese music scene, to the extent that it is even heard as background music. This would probably not have happened without Zeebra, who is often considered the originator of the Japanese hip-hop scene.
YUME X FRRESH
We had one of the best photoshoots to date at YUME this past SUNDAY. The outerwear brand that was shot is named FRRESH and the jackets & coats the designer brought were just that, FRRESH! The shoot was styled by none other than COOL CHRIS himself and SABEL, official YUME FAM. The models were great, hair and makeup were fantastic, and the YUME I-TEAM were on hand as usual making things happen. Peep the pics below
